One of the attractions of Kaktovic for the both polar & grizzly bears is the pile of whale bones from the fall hunt, piled at the end of a spit outside of town. Every fall, polar bears gather near the community of Kaktovik, Alaska, on the northern edge of ANWR, waiting for the Arctic Ocean to freeze. The bears have become a symbol of global warming.
